Dr. Dre Threatens Lawsuit Over Movie That Portrays Him As An Abusive Boyfriend

A TV movie called Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le is set to air next week, but Dr. Dre is reportedly attempting to have it shut down. According to TMZ, Dre sent a cease and desist letter to Sony Pictures, contesting the film’s depiction of him as an abusive boyfriend, and threatening a lawsuit if the film airs as-is.

The film follows Dre’s relationship with R&B singer Michel’le, and TMZ suggests that the movie will show Dre’s character physically assaulting her by pulling her hair, striking her in the face, and pulling a gun on her. The trailer features a scene where Dre grabs Michel’le by the throat in the studio.

Dre’s letter claims that the rapper was never abusive in their relationship, he also chooses to point out that Michel’le did not file a police report or seek medical attention for the alleged abuse. His attorneys have also warned Michel’le to “back off.”

This is not the first time Michel’le has accused Dre of abuse. She told VladTv in 2015 that she was “the quiet girlfriend who got beat up.” She is also not the only woman to call Dr. Dre out for physical abuse. Former Pump It Up host Dee Barnes wrote a letter in response to her assault at the hands of Dre being excluded from N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton. Dre later apologized to the women he’s “hurt” in the past. Barnes shared another letter in response to his apology. Michel’le was also excluded from the N.W.A. film.
